Daniel Ginsburg was born on November 7, 1922 in Detroit, MI to parents Morris and Sonia Ginsburg. He attended East Detroit High School and Wayne State University where he graduated in absentia. He was considered a gifted writer and artist. Ginsburg was once the head of the Detroit Habonim movement, helping to establish Camp Kinneret near Chelsea, MI.
 
  Daniel served as a U.S. Marine from January 1943 until his untimely death on March 8, 1945 on Iwo Jima. He earned the rank of 2nd Lieutenant and was awarded both The Purple Heart and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal for his wartime heroics. His body was interred in the 5th Division Cemetery on Iwo Jima and eventually relocated to Machpelah Cemetery in Ferndale, MI.
