Born on October 9, 1921 in Rovno Poland, Jack Winokur and his family emigrated to Detroit where he attended Central High School and the Detroit Institute of Technology.
A member of the U.S. Army Air Corp, Lt. Winokur was killed early on in World
War II over the South Pacific in a flying accident. He began his service in January
1942, obtained rank of 2nd Lieutenant and was awarded the Purple Heart during his
service.
