Roy F. Green was born in Detroit and graduated from Central High School and Wayne State University before enlisting in the U.S. Army in November, 1941. His life ended one year later - November 1942 - over San Juan, Puerto Rico in a plane crash. Green was serving as a pursuit pilot and received his training at Randolph Field, Texas.
 
Post 529 was formed in 1947 by Russell Greenberg, to commemorate the life and bravery of his sibling.
