Sol Yetz was born in Detroit and graduated from Northern High School. He was a Staff Sergeant with the Army's ski-troopers. A Purple Heart recipient, Sol lost his life in Luxembourg in 1945 during the Battle of the Bulge, after serving overseas for six short months. He was initially buried in Luxembourg, then repatriated and reburied at Machpeleh cemetery in Ferndale, Michigan.

In 1946, close friends of Yetz and S/Sgt Morris Cohen formed Post 530 for the purpose of perpetuating their memories.
